Police have been taking part in a summer crackdown on county lines drug dealing.

Officers spent the morning at Macclesfield railway station on Wednesday (July 30) as part of an initiative designed to keep Macclesfield safe and stop county lines operations.

County lines is a term used for organised drug-dealing networks, usually controlled by a person using a single telephone number or 'deal line'.

Young or vulnerable people are recruited to move illegal drugs across the country, often using the rail network, taxis or other private hire vehicles.

During the operation at Macclesfield station, officers stop searched seven people, issuing out one community resolution as a result.

Ahead of the school holidays, Macclesfield was named in the Home Secretary's Safer Streets initiative.

As part of this, residents can expect to see an increased police presence along with stronger prevention and enforcement action throughout the summer.

Mr Roca, MP for Macclesfield, said: "The Conservatives left neighbourhood policing hollowed out, whilst crimes like shoplifting and street theft were spiralling out of control. That was their legacy on law and order, and communities like ours paid the price.

"I have been working and campaigning locally to tackle the blight of antisocial behaviour, so I'm pleased to see that Macclesfield will benefit from these new plans.

"I will keep fighting to tackle anti-social behaviour in all parts of Macclesfield and working with anyone and everyone to find a solution."

Elsewhere in town, officers attended Macclesfield Pubwatch with a number of representatives from licensing.

Businesses questionnaires were carried out to see what matters to the licensees in the area and what issues they face.

Eight spiking kits were also distributed to local pubs.

Police also carried out taxi licensing checks and visited local retailers.
