A police helicopter helped to find a missing elderly person.

Cheshire Police were alerted to reports that a 'high-risk' 88-year-old man had gone missing on Thursday evening, September 24.

With the assistance of a helicopter, police were able to locate the man 'safe and well'.

A spokesperson said: "At around 7pm on Thursday, September 24, police were called reports of a high-risk missing 88-year-old man in Macclesfield.

"Local officers, supported by the police helicopter, conducted a search of the area and the man has since been located safe and well."

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to assist after it was found that the man had fallen 30 metres down an embankment at Riverside Park.

Three fire engines, from the Macclesfield Wilmslow and Knutsford stations, arrived at the scene at around 11.30pm.

They were joined there by the technical rescue unit from Knutsford and the drone unit from Middlewich.

A CFRS spokesperson said: "Firefighters attended an incident involving a person who had fallen around 30 metres down a steep embankment.

"Specialist technical rescue crews worked alongside the ambulance service's Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and police colleagues to establish safe rescue systems before firefighters were lowered down the embankment with a stretcher to reach the casualty.

"The casualty was secured onto the stretcher and carefully lowered further down the embankment to waiting paramedics.

"They were then handed over to the ambulance service for further assessment and treatment."
