Police are looking for the owner of a dog who bit a child.

An appeal has been launched by officers in Poynton after an 11-year-old boy was bitten by a dog.

It happened at around 10.45am on Sunday, February 2, near the Scout hut on Coppice Road and left the child with minor injuries.

Police are now urging the dog owner and any witnesses to come forward.

"The victim was approached by a black and white dog possibly a sheepdog/border collie which was off the lead," a spokesperson for the force said.

"The dog has jumped at the victim and then bitten the child on the leg.

"The dog owner/handler, a female aged approximately 60 to 70 years old, has then intervened and led the dog away without exchanging details.

"If you are the dog owner/handler or you witnessed the incident please contact 101 or email [email protected] quoting IML-2019140."
