Not-for-profit care village operator Belong has appointed Andrew Shield as Business Manager for its high-quality home care service, Belong at Home, which operates locally from its base on Macclesfield's Kennedy Avenue.

In the new position, Andrew will be responsible for leading the expansion of the award-winning home care service, which provides bespoke support packages, including expert dementia care, for people living independently, in a Belong village apartment or in the wider community.

Andrew has worked for Belong at Home since its inception over a decade ago, beginning his career as a Community Support Worker before progressing to become Area Manager of the organisation's Warrington and Didsbury services.

During this time, the number of locations in which Belong at Home operates has increased with the opening of new Belong villages, most recently in Newcastle-under-Lyme and Chester, with all home care and village services rated Good or Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission.

A particular focus of Andrew's role will be on recruitment as Belong at Home looks to continue to extend the provision of services to include areas in new locations, as he explains: "We've spent the past 12 years building a service that people and their families trust. We now have a great foundation to enable us to support more people to retain their independence while living in their own home.

"I look forward to upholding these standards as Belong at Home is made available to more communities through the planned programme of new village developments, including the upcoming village in Birkdale."

Belong at Home provides customers with trained and caring community support workers to assist with customer needs, including one-to-one personal care, housekeeping, such as cleaning, food preparation and running errands, as well as companionship and support to enable greater wellbeing.

This includes excursions outside the home and exercise initiatives. Customers and their relatives also benefit from free access to Belong's Admiral Nurse service, which provides mental health nurses specialising in dementia care, in association with Dementia UK, to support people who have been diagnosed with dementia.

Andrew added: "A career with Belong at Home is so much more than being a carer – each day is different. I also love working for Belong because it's a caring organisation and its values align with mine."

There are currently a number of opportunities for Community Support Workers at Belong at Home services local to Belong villages. You can find out more at www.belong.org.uk/jobs.

As well as Belong at Home, they also provide award-winning dementia care in their living complex in Upton Priory.

Belong Macclesfield turned 15 earlier this year.
