Belong Macclesfield reopen their hairdressers to the public

A hairdressers in Upton Priory has reopened their doors to the community for the first time since the pandemic began.

Belong Macclesfield, a care village located on Kennedy Avenue, have a fully-fitted hair salon on their ground floor.

Up until the start of the pandemic, people who lived nearby as well as residents of the care village could come in for a trim.

And now family members and those who live outside Belong Macclesfield can use the hairdressers once more, as they have reopened it the public.

Jackie Green, who has worked at Belong Macclesfield since 2015, is delighted to get styling the hair of the community once more.

"I try to offer a pamper experience for everyone", she said.

"Especially as I have just been doing residents for the past year, so I try and give them something really luxurious to look forward to.

"I worked in a salon in Macc for fifteen years previous to this, and worked in Congleton before then. I live nearby too."

While Belong Macclesfield residents have been getting their hair done by Jackie for most of 2022, September marks the first time the salon has been open to the public in 30 months.

Those wanting their hair tended to can book an appointment.

However, they are only open three days a week.

"The salon is open Tuesday, Friday and every other Saturday," explained Jackie.

"I really enjoy working at Belong. I actually chose to work in housekeeping when the salon couldn't be open during the lockdowns.

"It was nice as I got to know the staff and residents a lot more.

"Belong is a very supportive company. They choose their staff well as they are all lovely."

Belong Macclesfield is a state-of-the-art dementia care village in Upton Priory, run by not-for-profit operator Belong, who also operate other local sites.

Up to 72 people can live at their Macclesfield site, which opened 15 years ago. The salon opened at the same time.

140 staff are employed by Belong Macclesfield, with 105 of them being based in our town.

The team is set to grow as part of its ongoing recruitment campaign for support workers (qualified and trainee positions), as well as nursing, housekeeping, catering, and administration roles.

They specialise in dementia care, and were awarded an 'Good' by the Care Quality Commission in 2019, including an 'Outstanding' in the 'Caring' category.
