A pub is starting to look 2025 off 'with a bang'.

The White Lion on Mill Street is hosting a huge charity drive in January.

Pints for Purpose will encourage punters to eat, sing and donate toys for five local causes.

Landlord, Jack Bellis, said: "This is the first time we've crammed in so many charities into one month

"What we wanted to do is start off this year with a bang and raise as much money as possible.

"We want to make a big statement at the start of the year to show that we're going to support charities throughout 2025.

"There's going to be loads going on!"

He added: "Whether it's donating, singing, or enjoying our food specials, every little bit makes a difference!

"Let's make January a month to remember and give back to our amazing community."

Jack, 26, and his business partner Kyle Frost took over the White Lion in January 2023.

Pints with Purpose officially kicked off on Monday, January 30.

Week one, which runs until January 5, sees pubgoers asked to bring in donations of toys to be given out to children in A&E.

Week two, January 6 to 12, is for the men's mental health charity, Mentell Macclesfield,

There will be a tin for donations on the bar as well as a karaoke night, where participants are asked to make a donation for each song they sing.

The Christie takes centre stage on week three, January 13 to 19.

During this time, all profits from the pub's £5 pizzas will go to the hospital.

On week four, January 20 to 26, guests are asked to bring in donations of pet food and toys for Windyway Trust.

Last but not least, from January 27 to February 2, the White Lion will be donating all profits from their £5 burgers to East cheshire Hospice.

All of the fundraising activities have been designed to ensure patrons taking part in 'Dry January' can still get involved.

Jack said: "There are different ways of raising money that aren't based on alcohol at all and that's what we try to do.

"You don't have to drink anything, just come down, be involved and meet new people and raise money for a charity as well.

"The name Pints for purpose is really all about social gathering and working together."

In February 2024, Jack and Kyle took over the Ivy Leaf.

With several regulars using the services at The Christie, in January the Ivy Road pub will host pool and darts tournaments to raise money for the charity.
