A school community came together to show their support for one of their peers.

The Macclesfield Academy invited staff, students and parents to wear their favourite sports tops on Friday, September 26.

It was a way of celebrating the resilience and bravery of pupil Oscar Hulley, who has been undergoing a series of hospital procedures following his second ependymoma brain tumour diagnosis.

The day proved to be a great success, with a variety of sports being represented, from a huge range of football teams to Formula 1, rugby and hockey jerseys.

Headteacher Mat Galvin even presented Oscar with his own personalised school rugby shirt.

Mr Galvin said: "Oscar's love of Nottingham Forest FC is well known around school so for the rest of the school to wear their favourite sports shirt in solidarity with him seemed a great way to show him just how proud we are."

Oscar was just three-years-old when he was first diagnosed with an ependymoma, a very rare cancerous brain tumour.

Following a life-saving surgery and 33 sessions of radiotherapy, Oscar was given the all clear.

However, just before his 13th birthday a routine MRI scan revealed Oscar had relapsed.

On August 8, 2025, he underwent another surgery which resulted in some side effects, including losing all movement in the right side of his body and his ability to speak.

Following daily sessions with speech and language therapists, physios and occupational therapy, Oscars is now fully speaking again and has regained movement in his right side.

He recently celebrated his 13th birthday and is now undergoing daily radiotherapy sessions at The Christie.

You can support Oscar on his road to recovery by donating to his GoFundMe page here.
