Two of Macclesfield's four museums have announced their reopening, for May 20.

While other indoor activities such as Macclesfield's pubs and cafés will reopen their inside seating on May 17, our museums have been announced to open a few days after on May 20.

The Silk Museum, located on Park Lane, operates with a 'Give What You Can' donation scheme for entry. It will open from 10am next Thursday.

Paradise Mill, which also honours the silk heritage of Macclesfield and is located on

Park Lane, will open on the same day.

The prices for Paradise Mill are £9.50 Adult, £8.50 Concession, Children are free.

Macclesfield Museums, the operator for our four heritage sites had this to say: "After over a year of closure, we're pleased to announce both The Silk Museum and Paradise Mill will reopen their doors again to visitors on 20th May 2021.

"Initially, they will open on Thursdays and Saturdays only, with more days to be added at the start of the school summer holidays in July.

"To control visitor numbers, entry to both buildings is by pre-booked tickets. The Silk Museum will open 10-4pm, with half hourly slots and limited numbers for social distancing.

"As we're open for fewer days, we're increasing the number of tours on Thursdays and Saturdays at Paradise Mill: 10.15-11.15am | 11.30-12.30pm | 1-2pm | 2.15-3.15pm.

There's no need to book if you want to visit our shop – we kindly ask you to wear a face covering and use our hand sanitisers. We can't wait to welcome you back!"

Hand sanitising, mask wearing, and social distancing will be encouraged. Staff will also wear face-coverings or masks.

Up to 6 tickets can be booked for groups of up to 6 people, including children, or 2 households.

Macclesfield Museums have other sites West Park Museum on Prestbury Road, and The Old Sunday School on Roe Street is already open. More information on The Old Sunday school can be found here.

The Old Sunday School is currently undergoing redevelopment after funding from Arts Council England.
