Macclesfield opticians' festive fundraising helps bring in thousands for two local causes

By Matthew Hancock-Bruce   23rd Dec 2025

Opticians have helped raise thousands of pounds for local causes this Christmas.

The team at Specsavers Macclesfield have wrapped up a successful season of festive fundraising.

In total, they helped to raise over £3,000 for the Rossendale Trust and East Cheshire Eye Society.

"We're incredibly proud of what we've achieved this December," said Leia Murray, community coordinator for Specsavers Macclesfield.

"Engaging with our community isn't just about providing excellent eye and hearing care, it's about building trust, supporting causes that matter and giving back to the area we serve."

The locally owned and run Specsavers store kicked off their charitable efforts in November.

They contributed a Christmas hamper to the raffle at the Rossendale Trust's fashion show.

The event, which also featured Christmas stalls and a performance from the Rockerfellers, raised just over £3,000 for the trust.

"It was wonderful to see the community come together for such an important cause," Leia added.

"The Rockefellers band created such a fun atmosphere for the models and the Christmas stalls were absolutely lovely."

Building on this momentum, Specsavers Macclesfield hosted its own mini Christmas market outside the store on Thursday, December 11.

Team members Chrissie Parton and Jenna Higginbotham ran the pop-up stall, offering a cake sale and spin the wheel game with prizes, including Specsavers branded items and golden discount tickets.

The cake sale proved particularly popular, with homemade treats, including brownies, cakes and gingerbread trees baked by team member Amanda Earlam flying off the table.

The event raised £150 for East Cheshire Eye Society, a charity Specsavers Macclesfield has supported for many years.

Leia said: "From supporting the Rossendale Trust fundraiser to hosting our mini Christmas market, these events reflect our commitment to Macclesfield.

"The response from customers and the local community has been heartwarming, and we're thrilled to have helped raise over £3,000 for such deserving causes.

"It's been a joy to make a real difference."
