An independent firm of chartered surveyors is celebrating 20 years in business.

Macclesfield based Jigsaw Surveyors was founded by chartered surveyor, John Daniels, back in 2005.

Now, just over two decades later, they boast an experienced and professional team, offering surveys throughout Cheshire and south Manchester, as well as parts of Staffordshire and High Peak.

Managing director John said: "We have reached this fantastic milestone by sheer hard work, always striving to maintain our standards.

History of Jigsaw Surveyors

John became a fully qualified chartered surveyor in 1984 but spent the next 20 years working as an estate agent, managing several successful offices.

It is this background which helped set Jigsaw Surveyors apart from the competition when it launched in 2005.

John said: "What's unique about us is that most of our team have a property background.

"As a result, we understand the property market and the needs of buyers."

John and Steve Owen started the business back in 2005.

Fast forward 15 years and Steve retired, leaving John to decide where to take the business next.

Following Steve's retirement, John decided to expand the team and today, Jigsaw employs six full-time surveyors.

Looking ahead, the business is in safe hands as and when John decides to call it a day.

John said: "I've introduced a young team, who are all coming through to maintain the business.

"I have personally mentored all of them. They've not just obtained qualifications, they have had the benefit of my experience."

Services

When buying a property, if you require a mortgage, the lender will instruct a surveyor to provide a valuation.

However, as this is only to enable the lender to assess the value of the property for lending purposes, Jigsaw recommend a more detailed survey is undertaken so that the results can then be considered before entering such a big investment.

If the survey highlights significant defects or issues with the property, you are then be in a position to possibly renegotiate the purchase price or alternatively, if the property gets a clean bill of health, it will provide reassurance that your proposed investment is safe.

When you are considering a purchase there are three levels of inspection to be considered:

Level 1 RICS Condition Report - Designed for clients (buyers, sellers and owners) seeking a professional and objective report on the condition of the property at an economic price. As a result, it is less comprehensive than survey level two and survey level three.

Level 2 RICS Homebuyer Report (with or without valuation) - This intermediate-level includes a more extensive visual inspection of the building, its services and grounds, but still without tests. Concealed areas normally open or used by the occupiers are inspected if it is safe to do so (i.e. roof spaces, basements and cellars).

Level 3 Full Building Survey - This is our most detailed Survey Report and is delivered according to the Home Survey Standard (1st edition) RICS professional statement and is equivalent to Level 3. The service consists of a detailed visual inspection of the building, its services and grounds and is more extensive than a Level 2 survey.
