A café in Macclesfield has decked out their windows to raise awareness for an under-threat green space in Macclesfield.

Plums Kitchen, of 1 Market Place, have decorated their windows with plans and animals that would have their habitat destroyed should controversial housing plans go ahead.

Cheshire East Council in conjunction with fellow landowner TG Limited want to build 950 homes and a link road on the fringes of the Danes Moss Nature reserve in South Macclesfield.

Plums are the second business on Market Place to have now painted their windows to raise awareness for the beauty spot, threatened with urbanisation.

Plums staff member Emma Whitworth came up with the idea to do the mural, with the approval of her boss Lizzy Plumbley.

"It took my eight hours to do it during my day off work," said Emma.

"I saw some other businesses getting involved [in painting their shopfronts for Danes Moss]

"Being an artist myself I saw an opportunity to do a piece of window art for the first time. And I am quite happy with the result."

Emma, who has been employed at Plums since March, is one of just four people who work at the breakfast and brunch spot.

Species that can be found on the mural and at the Danes Moss or just outside include the Willow Tit, which is Britain's fastest-declining bird by population, and the Orange-tipped butterfly.

A Tawny Owl towards the bottom right of the mural is also a favourite of Emma's, which can be found at the site.

She has also included the names of many of the plants and creatures that thrive on the area.

Plums Kitchen celebrated their sixth anniversary in the spring. The business is a pun on the surname of the husband and wife team who own it. They serve fresh salads, sarnies and bakes at an affordable price. (Image - Alexander Greensmith / Macclesfield Nub News)

"Even though this feels that a pretty small campaign in terms of the world, it is almost as if people are getting involved because it feels like we are able to do something for the community," she added.

"We have leaflets in store and people have been asking about the mural with their lunch."

Emma is a multi-talented creative. She is a stained glass artist, and you can follow her on Instagram by clicking here.

She is also the drummer for Macclesfield guitar band The C33s, who are playing a gig at Back Wallgate venue Mash Guru this Saturday at 10pm.

"I am grateful for Lizzy to allowing me to spread my creative fingers, and thank you to everyone for all the support," concluded Emma.

"It was Lizzy's idea to come up with raising awareness. We just want it to be informative and catch people's attention."

Two doors down from Plums, Cheshire Balloons have also kitted out their windows to raise awareness for the campaign.
