A Macclesfield business shut up shop last weekend to go on a gruelling charity challenge.

Father-son Chestergate company The CBD Specialist went on a coast-to-coast walk from Newcastle-upon-Tyne to Bowness in Cumbria.

They went over their intended 83-mile target, and have currently raised precisely £1000 for Macclesfield Samaritans.

Business partners Chris Vernon (38) and Josh Vernon (19) were joined on the trek by Bollington Vapes owner Kieran Ledgar (26).

"We walked 85.5 miles - 58.15hrs including breaks and got only three hours sleep in carpark in our tents," said Chris.

"It went absolutely amazing, it was really, really hard. My ankle inflamed a lot by mile 40, Josh's knee went."

"There was a little bit of dread going into the walk, but when we got there and started doing it, it was all excitement," added Josh.

"We had an amazing support team, who I can't thank enough for being exactly where they needed to be when we needed it, I know they too went through it big time with 60+ hours stuck with only my car as a home which was full to the roof with supplies," added Chris.

"I also I want to thank everyone who has already donated to the cause, the donations page will be open until the end of the month so you can still donate until then, so far we have raised almost £1000 of our £1500 target so please if you can do, and if you have done so already thank you so much."

The CBD Specialist sell affordable cannabidiol remedies such as drops, soaps, tea, capsules, and gummies.

Chris first took CBD after an ankle injury which also shattered his confidence.

"I started the business a few years ago after I had an accident", said Chris.

"I had really bad anxiety and depression after two years on crutches.

"I wasn't able to get out of my house much. I tried CBD for the first time in Stoke, 15 minutes later all my anxiety had gone. It had completely changed my life.

"It helped with my depression and brought down the deflation of my ankle massively. And I've felt much better since then.

"That is the very reason we exist, and we want to help people with CBD as well like it helped me, and by raising awareness with this challenge as well."

"We chose Samaritans as mental health is massively tied with what we do.

"We'd love to do the challenge again, and next time maybe do it a cause for something more personal, maybe someone that needs a bit of financial help in Macclesfield."

Since Macclesfield Nub News last spoke with Chris and Josh, their business has gone through a few significant changes, with more to come.

"We've started selling more CBD for dogs, and began to introduce a lot of our own products," Chris teased.

"We've just introduced our own-brand CBD patches, and have our own topicals [drops] on the way soon too.

"We'd also like to introduce our own brand CBD honey, which can be used to treat eczema and psoriasis.

"We'd also like to expand into upstairs and redo the front of the shop."

The CBD Specialist is located on 47 Chestergate. You can also support their business for FREE by giving them a follow on Facebook.
