Macclesfield father-and-son CBD business to take on gruelling charity walk

By Alex Greensmith 19th Jan 2022

A family business in the heart of Macclesfield will undertake an epic hike to raise money for charity.

The CBD Specialist, of Macclefield's 47 Chestergate, has been a fixture in our town since the summer re-opening of 2020.

Now, they will aim to raise £1500 for Samaritans, by walking the 84 miles of Hadrian's Wall.

Father-son business partners Chris Vernon (38) and Josh Vernon (19) will go on the epic trek for the emotional support charity with some of their beloved customers.

They sell affordable CBD remedies such as drops, soaps, tea, capsules and vape liquid.

The business started after Chris' life was changed by the legal substance with medicinal benefits.

"I started the business a few years ago after I had an accident", said Chris.

"I had really bad anxiety and depression after two years on crutches.

"I wasn't able to get out of my house much. I tried CBD for the first time in Stoke, 15 minutes later all my anxiety had gone. It had completely changed my life.

"It helped with my depression and brought down the deflation of my ankle massively. And I've felt much better since then.

"That is the very reason we exist, and we want to help people with CBD as well like it helped me, and with this challenge as well.

"We're looking forward to hiking across Hadrian's Wall in July, for the Samaritans. We chose them as they are quite similar to what we do, helping people with emotional distress."

As well as their Chestergate store, The CBD Specialist also have a selection of products to purchase on their website.(Image - Alexander Greensmith / Macclesfield Nub News)

The raised funds will go direct to the Macclesfield and District branch of Samaritans, who have a site on 9 King Edward Street.

So those who donate will know they are helping those in need from our town.

"I've never walked Hadrian's Wall before but my dad has done some of it," said Josh.

Other CBD-infused products they sell include muscle spray, which Chris will be using for the Hadrian's Wall challenge.

They also sell relaxing gummies for humans, as well as CBD dummies for dogs, which the business claims was once used to cure help a dog beat a cancerous tumour.

The ACI and Centre for Medicinal Cannabis (CMC) suggested the CBD industry was worth £690m to the UK economy last year.

The Macclesfield company can allay any concerns you may have about CBD by popping into their Chestergate store, or giving them a call on 01625 408699.

"The business is just us two so sadly we'll have to be closed when we do the challenge, but we are hoping to bring some more staff sometime", Chris added.

"Now we've got to get some t-shirts done and get training. Thank you to anyone who will donate.

"There are so many people needing help because of the pandemic, so we are happy to play our part through both our charity and our business. We just want to do our bit and help."
