Survey on the future of Macclesfield Indoor Market

By Alex Greensmith

17th Dec 2021 | Local News

Cheshire East Council are considering options for the future of Macclesfield's Indoor and Outdoor Markets and would like our town's feedback and ideas.

This includes vendors that are outdoors during the week such as the flower or bag sellers outside the Town Hall, but does not include Treacle Sunday's Treacle Market.

The questionnaire asks how often you use the Indoor Market (within the Grosvenor Centre) or the Outdoor Market (mainly contained in Market Place), and why you choose to use or not use it.

Suggested changes includes adding toilet facilities, a cash machine, plus adding bike and Amazon lockers to get more people to the markets.

Macclesfield Indoor Market is full of independent market traders. Stores include a barbers, tailors, record store and deli.

Macclesfield Indoor Market is currently open from:

Monday 9am-5pm

Tuesday 9am–5pm

Wednesday 9am–5pm

Thursday 9am–5:30pm

Friday 9am–5:30pm

Saturday 9am–5:30pm

Sunday Closed

The survey, which should take you no more than ten minutes, can be accessed here.

Councillor Nick Mannion, chair of Cheshire East Council's economy and growth committee, said: "Macclesfield's markets are already an important part of the town centre offer but we believe they have an even bigger potential, and we want to see what the future could look like.

"We are of course engaging with current market traders and other stakeholders to hear what they have to say, but we are also very interested to hear how residents and visitors to the town see the markets developing."
