A Macclesfield tenant has been ordered to tear down her garden.

Ria Naden, who lives on West Park Drive, has received a letter from Plus Dane Housing, instructing her to dismantle her front garden.

Living with multiple long-term disabilities, including Classical Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, spina bifida and ME, Ria works just 15 hours a week for the NHS and spends the rest of her time at home.

"To many people it may look like a few pots and some artificial grass. To me, it is my lifeline," she said.

"It gives me a reason to get out of bed on difficult days.

"Sometimes all I can manage is walking the few steps to my doorway to see what has bloomed or to watch the bees, butterflies and dragonflies that now visit every day.

"This tiny space has become part of my daily therapy. It encourages me to get fresh air, supports my mental health and gives me a sense of purpose during long periods confined to my home.

"It has also meant a great deal to my mum, who is currently undergoing treatment for breast and lung cancer. Visiting my little garden after her hospital appointments has given us both moments of happiness during an incredibly difficult time."

While the garden has been ordered to go, it is understood Plus Dane Housing have taken no such action to remove a car left abandoned outside Ria's home.

"My bed is in my living room, only a few steps from my front door. For the last ten years, the view from that door has been an abandoned, mould-covered Peugeot that has been left to rot," Ria said.

In response, Ria has launched a petition calling on Plus Dane Housing to rethink, with hundreds of people adding their signatures in just a matter of days.

However, the housing association say the decision is not up to them.

A spokesperson for Plus Dane said: "The garden created at Clocktower does look appealing, but this space is not owned by Plus Dane.

"We reviewed the items and engaged with the leaseholder, who confirmed that they would not allow these additions.

"It is a communal area to be enjoyed by all residents.

"We understand that this is disappointing for some residents, however we must adhere to the terms in our lease and also pass these conditions on to our customers."

On the removal of the mouldy Peugeot, the spokesperson added: "Not all the car park spaces at Clocktower are assigned to Plus Dane customers.

"We are working towards a resolution with the owner of the vehicle."
