Thousands has been raised for a local lad helping to keep the roads of Bollington safe.

Ben Moorhouse is probably the most popular man in town today.

He's been out in his snow plough since 3am, clearing the roads for others, out of the kindness of his heart.

Now, residents have banded together to raise more than £2,000 as a way of saying thanks for his hard work.

Tree surgeon Ben said: "It's greatly appreciated but I don't do it for the money or any sort of gratification.

"It's just about doing something for the community. If it's not ploughing snow, its pumping out houses when they flood.

"It's just what you should do.

"It's not often that people go out of their way these days and the fact I have the kit I may as well do it, I can't go to work today anyways!

"I have the equipment so I may as well do it. If it's going to make it easier for people to get to work or for a carer to get to someone in need then it's worth it!"

Claire Beardmore, co-owner of Happy Valley Honey, launched a Just Giving fundraiser on Tuesday morning, January 7.

As of 3pm, just over £2,200 has been donated by 191 supporters.

"Local lad Ben Moorhouse has shown true community spirit and has ploughed most of Bollington over the last two days, and has been making our roads safer," reads the Just Giving page.

"He has been working tirelessly in Bollington and neighbouring villages.

"Please show your appreciation to Ben by helping to raise some money as a gift to him so he is not out of pocket with all the fuel he has used.

"Thank you Ben. You are a true hero and an inspiration to others!"
