Tesco looking to banish 'raw sewage' smell at Macclesfield store
A Tesco store has been plagued by the smell of raw sewage.
Shoppers at the supermarket on Hibel Road have noticed a foul smell lingering in the air for several weeks now.
Thankfully, Tesco are aware and are looking to address it as soon as possible.
A spokesperson said: "Our maintenance team are working to resolve the issue at our Macclesfield Hibel Road Superstore, which remains open as usual.
"We thank customers for their patience whilst the work is completed."
One shopper, Rhiannon Jopp, said: "I went in on Saturday (January 4) and it smelt like sewers as soon as I walked in through the doors.
"It has put me and my mum off from shopping there.
"The smell was overpowering, as you got to certain section of the store the smell got worse, such as the freezer section and the deli fridges at the back of the store."
Another customer, who asked not to be named, said: "The smell of raw sewage hits you as soon as you walk through the doors.
"I could even smell it from the pharmacy, the complete opposite end of the store.
"It makes shopping there quite unpleasant, hopefully it's sorted soon!"
A third added: "I first noticed it before Christmas.
"Honestly, I thought I was going to be sick."
