Three people have been arrested following a high-speed chase through Macclesfield.

Police were alerted to a potential cloned vehicle while on patrol at around 10.20pm last night (February 24).

Following a search, a silver Audi A3 matching the description was spotted on Congleton Road in Macclesfield.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver made off at speed, with a pursuit subsequently authorised.

Police followed the vehicle as it travelled 'at excess speeds' through pedestrian-only zones in the town centre.

A stinger was used to slow the vehicle, with the pursuit eventually coming to a 'safe conclusion' on Mill Street.

Chief Inspector John Forshaw, of the Cheshire Police Road and Crime unit, said: "This was a great example of teamwork from different units across the force, each of which were pivotal in securing the arrest of three individuals who clearly showed no regard for the safety of members of the public.

"Thanks to our officers working together, we were able to keep up with the suspect and eventually bring his dangerous behaviour to an end.

"This should serve as an example that if you try and commit crime in Cheshire, we will find you, and you will be arrested for your actions."

The driver of the vehicle, a 31-year-old man from Macclesfield, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and drug driving.

The two passengers in the vehicle, a 35-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman, both from Macclesfield, were arrested on suspicion of being carried in a vehicle taken without the owner's consent.

The woman was also arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine.
