Two Macclesfield schools set to benefit from free breakfast clubs
By Matthew Hancock-Bruce 2nd Feb 2026
Two schools in Macclesfield will soon benefit from free, daily breakfast clubs.
Christ the King Catholic & C of E Primary School and Broken Cross Primary Academy are among 500 schools to have been confirmed in the next phase of the government scheme, which begins in April.
It represents a campaign win for Macclesfield's Labour Member of Parliament, Tim Roca, who lobbied the government to deliver more free breakfast clubs in the communities he represents.
As a result, 577 children in his constituency will be able to access a nutritious meal at the start of the day.
Mr Roca said: "Having visited some of the breakfast clubs already created, I can see they are making a real difference by supporting families, helping parents with work choices and creating calmer classrooms and happier children. The government is now targeting support where it's needed most, with the clear goal that every primary school will have access to a free breakfast club.
"For me, this is about breaking down barriers and making sure where you're from doesn't limit where you can go. A great start to the day can change everything.
"I look forward to visiting Christ the King Catholic & C of E Primary School and Broken Cross Primary Academy to see the breakfast clubs in action."

The clubs come alongside a raft of measures driven forward by Labour to cut the cost of living for families in Macclesfield, including expanding free school meals, rolling out 30 hours of government-funded childcare, bringing down school uniform costs and securing the future of Best Start holiday clubs.
All primary-aged children attending Christ the King & C of E Primary School will be able to access a free breakfast and at least 30 minutes of free childcare every day.
Broken Cross Primary Academy, meanwhile, already provides a free breakfast club through its pupil premium funding.
This new government support is therefore particularly welcome, as it will allow the school to redirect its pupil premium resources towards other targeted support, ensuring children and families benefit even more.
Councillor Fiona Wilson and Councillor Brian Puddicombe, who work closely with Christ the King & C of E Primary School, said: "We are delighted that a school in our ward has been selected to receive funding for a free breakfast club.
"This is an excellent initiative from the government to ensure that all children start the day with a healthy breakfast, so they are ready to learn and make the most of their school day.
"The funding will provide much-needed assistance to parents in our ward who currently pay. Labour has done much to lift children out of poverty, and free breakfast clubs are a great example of the support families need."
Bridget Phillipson, Secretary of State for Education, added: "Free breakfast clubs sit right at the heart of Labour's Plan for Change, breaking the link between background and success for families all over the country.
"Breakfast clubs can have a transformative impact on the lives of millions of children, feeding hungry tummies and fuelling hungry minds, so every child begins the day ready to learn.
"Alongside our plans to roll out school-based nurseries and get thousands more children school-ready, this government is delivering the reforms needed to give every child, wherever they grow up, the best start in life."
