With sunnier days, and longer nights, more social groups are cropping up around Macclesfield.

And next week will see the launch of two free social groups across our town, both with aims of tackling isolation.

The first to take place chronologically is on Tuesday May 24 on Chestergate. The Picturedrome will welcome a business breakfast meeting at 8am.

Work from home and the decline in office usage has led to a more lonely work life. But this event hopes to rectify this!

Macclesfield Town App will lead the networking breakfast meet at The Picturedrome, with some local people just like you chatting over a quality, locally-roasted coffee and breakfast.

Psychology coach Fiona Drake said of the meeting "I've attended the networking event at Picturedrome on several occasions now.

"It's a fabulous way to make new business connections, potential collaborators and interesting contacts.

"As well as being fun, it is a perfect way to spend time learning about others and how you can help them too.

"In addition, the complimentary coffee is great and because it's an early morning event so the rest of the day is available to continue working on business. Highly recommend."

The second social group to come to our town next week is in Hurdsfield.

Women who attend do not have to be a part of the LGBT+ Community to attend, but the event is also open to them.

The first-ever LGBTQ+ friendly Women's Social Group will take place on the evening of Friday May 27.

The newly-expanded Green in the Corner Cafe will host the free event, which will take place on the last Friday of every month.

"It is something I've always wanted to do pre-COVID," said Co-organiser Stella Wake Bennett.

"Me and my wife Sarah met at a women's social group in Liverpool. So we know not all women like to go into bars on their own to meet friends.

"We've seen in a lot of the Hurdsfield and Macclesfield groups on Facebook that some women are lonely, and wanted groups like this."

"It is designed so you can just come for a brew and a chat in the two hours, but anyone who wants to go out after that can.

"I'm excited that people might make new friends. In the future we'd love to do other activities together as well."

Co-organiser Sarah Wake Bennett added "The is coming from Connected Communities money, to pay for the rent of the room.

"It has been a tough time the past few years, people have had really traumatic experiences in lockdown. If you are new to the area or just want to make friends, this will be a great, safe space to meet other women."

Just turn up on the day if you are interested.
