Cheshire East Council has officially reopened Victoria Park in Macclesfield to the public following a three-momth revamp of the facilities.

The works, which started at the end of July, involved a complete overhaul of the park and new equipment such as rope walks, balance beams, climbers, a wheelchair friendly roundabout and inclusive tactile play boards being installed to provide a much better experience for all users.

A short ceremony last week, attended by local dignitaries, concluded with Cheshire East Council's Mayor Councillor David Marren declaring the park open.

Councillor Mick Warren, chair of Cheshire East Council's environment and communities committee, who also attended the event, said: "I am really impressed with the range of facilities that the park now provides and there is something for everyone to enjoy.

"The changes are certain to make a positive difference to everyone that comes along and it's great to see that more people are already visiting, as a result of the works that have been completed."

Simon Harris, from The Friends of Victoria Park, said: "After many weeks of work, it is great to see the play area complete. The local community has waited patiently for it to be renovated and with many new pieces of play equipment now, the play area will offer fun and recreation for a full age range of children for many years to come."

The project was funded through a combination of £80,000 made available from local housing development funding, £20,000 from the Cheshire East Park Development Fund, and a further contribution from Macclesfield Town Council.

Macclesfield mayor and town councillor for Macclesfield south ward, Fiona Wilson, said: "I am delighted that Victoria Park now has an excellent play area with both new equipment – including inclusive equipment – and some equipment that has been reused following a consultation with residents.

"Macclesfield Town Council place great importance on play areas and invest £100,000 every year in our parks and play areas. We continue to work closely with Cheshire East Council and Ansa to deliver on these important projects."

Victoria Park is located on 8 Norton St, Macclesfield SK10 1GA.
