Weather warning for Macclesfield as thunderstorms set to bring heatwave to an end
The heatwave is set to end with a bang, as the Met Office has warned of potential thunderstorms in Macclesfield this weekend.
While the hot weather will end on Friday, the extreme weather shall continue.
Heavy rain and thundery showers may lead to flooding and transport disruption in Macclesfield this weekend.
"There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings," said the Met Office.
"Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services.
"Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures."
Power cuts also increase in stormy weather, so please be prepared.
Our town is currently in an Amber Warning due to extreme heat.
The yellow rain warning covers the entirety of southern England and Wales, and as far north as Sheffield.
Macclesfield's neighbouring towns Buxton to the East and Congleton to the West are also covered.
Interestingly, Knutsford is not included in the yellow weather warning.
There is a possibility of thunder in Macclesfield from 4-7 on Saturday during heavy showers, and from 4-10pm on Sunday.
It will rain from 1-10pm on both days of the weekend.
Macc roads A536 and A537 may be especially dangerous in this wet weather.
On Tuesday, we reported on new safety features for the A537 Cat and Fiddle Road.
