Without further ado, here's the four best events happening in Macclesfield this weekend...

Greek Pop-up

Since Aristo closed on Chestergate, it is hard to get great Greek food in town.

But a Greek-Cypriot food vendor is popping-up in rural Macclesfield, for this weekend only.

The lush gardens of Wincle Brewery will welcome The Travelling Taverna this Friday.

From 5pm to 9pm, you'll be able to enjoy their loaded Greek fries, gyros and more.

Dare we say it is the perfect beer food...

And you'll be able to enjoy a vast range of beers brewed on-site.

As the phone signal can be spotty, please bring cash as a back-up. Though card payment will be available.

They can cater for veggies and vegans too.

There may even be some baklava for those with a sweet tooth.

Rewind Festival

Macclesfield's biggest annual celebration of the 1980s is on this weekend. Rewind Festival is on Saturday and Sunday.

Headliners include UB40, Squeeze, Andy Bell of Erasure fame and ABC.

Tickets still available at this Capesthorne Hall event.

Live Music

A jazz concert is coming to Christ Church, with it being the final performance for one Macclesfield musician.

A Macclesfield performer and their four fellow vocalists will be performing songs from jazz legends on Friday August 4 at 6:30pm, with tickets starting from just £7.

Proceeds from Lo-Five's last-ever concert (and refreshments) will support both the group in recording their music, and the great work done by volunteers to keep Christ Church thriving as a historic and welcoming venue at the heart of the community.

They'll play the likes of Stevie Wonder and Duke Ellington.

Cambridge University student Ben Mortshire-Smith, from Macclesfield, first started singing when he arrived at Fallibroome sixth form and decided to start up a barbershop quartet called The Gents within the first few weeks.

In the last ten years since then, he hasn't stopped singing, in large and small choirs, both classical, choral and jazzy.

He brought his 30-strong university a cappella close harmony group called Cadenza to Christ Church Macclesfield four years ago en route to The Edinburgh Fringe, and the concert was well-supported and a huge success.

Macclesfield Sheepdog Trials

Don't worry these sheepdogs are not in the dock for being naughty. They are competing at Macclesfield Sheepdog Trials on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th August to see which pairing of dog & handler is the best in the area.

The competition is held over 2 days, on the trial field off Bullocks Lane in Sutton and will see over 100 dogs and their handlers, showing their abilities in sheepdog trialling. It is amazing to watch the dogs and handlers at work and watch the teamwork between man and dog that has been built up over years of training. We also have a beginners class on Friday for those starting out on their trialling journey.

The total raised for charity from our trials in 2022 and from raffle ticket sales was £3,000. This was distributed recently between six charities – East Cheshire Hospice, Rossendale Trust, MacMillan Cancer Support, Ronald McDonald House, Macclesfield Multiple Sclerosis Society and The British Heart Foundation. The cheque presentations took place today - Friday 21st July 2023 - at Sutton Hall Farm by kind permission of Mr. & Mrs. EE Eardley.

At the cheque presentation was a representative from all of the charities, along with David Rutley (our Patron), Mr B Kidd (our President), Adam Ledgar (Chairman), Will Hurley (Vice-chairman) and other members of the Macclesfield Sheepdog Committee and a few dogs came along to see what was going on!

These local trials are held in very high esteem in the trialling community and we will see a large number of entrants from across the UK and Europe; all competing to win the prestigious Open trials Championship on the Saturday evening. This historic, traditional weekend of activities is always a brilliant family event and offers a great atmosphere for all the family to see shepherds and dog handlers showcase their dogs and their skills.

In addition to the sheepdog trials, Friday also sees the tug-o-war competition in the evening, with a bar & band. And on the Saturday there is the hugely popular Craft Fayre which runs all day, along with the Tegg's Nose Fell Race which takes place at 2:30 pm and takes in a challenging ascent of this local landmark.

On the evening of Sunday 7th, the local Young Farmer's Clubs of Macclesfield and Congleton are hosting a Charity Supper in the marque on the field in aid of East Cheshire Hospice and club funds. This will be a Pea & Pie Supper with bingo and a raffle.

Tickets are £15 each, available by calling 07812 902061 or email [email protected].

It's all stacking up to be an action packed and fun weekend at Sutton. More info HERE.
