Who is the most Wikipedia'd person from Macclesfield?

By James Kelly   15th Apr 2021

An interactive map has revealed who is the most-searched-for person on Wikipedia from Macclesfield.

The Pudding has created a people map of the UK, replacing place names with their 'most Wikipedia-ed' resident.

This person could be someone who was born in, lived or has connections to the place.

Drumroll, please...

According to the map, Macclesfield's most Wikipedia'ed person is footballer Peter Crouch.

The former England and Liverpool striker was born in Macclesfield in January 1981 but left after one year to move to Singapore, where his father, Bruce, took up a job in advertising.

After three years in Singapore, the Crouch family settled in London when they returned to the UK.

In the summer of 1994, Peter took up the offer to play for the Queens Park Rangers and later that year moved to Tottenham Hotspur.

Crouch stayed started his professional career at the club after signing a contract to play for the Spurs youth team in 1998.

This was the start of a playing career spanning over 20 years that saw stints at Aston Villa, Southampton, Portsmouth, Liverpool and Stoke City.

Crouch also has 42 caps for England in an international career that saw him play at the 2008 and 2010 World Cups.

In July 2019, at age 38, Crouch announced his retirement from professional football after a spell with Burnley.

These days he can often be seen as a pundit for Premier League and international matches as well as hosting the popular 'Peter Crouch Podcast'.
