A former Liverpool player who made his senior debut against AC Milan has signed for Macclesfield.

The Silkmen have announced the signing of Max Woltman following a successful trial period with the club.

Having trained with the squad for the past few weeks, manager John Rooney has handed the 22-year-old forward a short-term contract with the Leasing.com Stadium outfit.

Rooney said: "I'm made up that we've managed to get the deal over the line with Max, he was really highly thought of at Liverpool, he's got bags of ability and has really impressed me in training over the last few weeks.

"I'm keen to see what the lad can do for us and hopefully he'll be a great addition to the side"

Woltman came through the ranks at Liverpool's Melwood academy, becoming a regular in the Reds' U23 side during the 2021/22 campaign.

That same season he made his senior debut, coming on against AC Milan at the San Siro in the UEFA Champions League in December.

The following month he made his first senior start for the eight time FA Cup champions in the third round of the iconic cup competition against Shrewsbury Town at Anfield.

In the following season, Woltman was loaned out to current League One side Doncaster Rovers, making 13 appearances before being recalled by Liverpool in January 2023.

That summer he moved down south to Oxford United, where he would make three appearances in the EFL Trophy as the club gained promotion to the Championship.

Upon departing the U's in the summer just gone, Rooney and assistant Francis Jeffers invited Woltman to train with the Silkmen.

He has now signed a contract which will see him stay at Moss Rose until the end of the 2025/26 season.

Woltman is eligible to play in Saturday's (October 18) National League North fixture at home to Curzon Ashton.
