Football club launches new team as part of 'biggest-ever' investment in the women's game

Women's football in Macclesfield has entered an exciting new era.
Tytherington Juniors Football Club has announced a new open-age female team for next season.
It comes as part of the club's 'biggest-ever commitment to female football development'.
Club Secretary Matt O'Brien, whose daughter Ava plays for both the U14s girls' team and the U14 Titans mixed team, believes this was long overdue.
He said: "It didn't seem right that in 2025, girls couldn't follow the same pathway as boys.
"We've built a fantastic environment for female players at Tytherington, but we needed to take that final step.
"Given the incredible success of the England Lionesses, we wanted to show girls in Macclesfield that they have the same opportunities - because they absolutely should."

The launch of an open-age team is part of Tytherington Juniors' long-term commitment to growing the female game.
Currently, the club has girls' teams running from U9 to U14, as well as a a free Wildcats centre for girls aged four to nine.
However, without an open-age side, there was no next step for these players to continue their journey.
To ensure the team thrives from the outset, the club has made a major investment in top-level coaching, partnering with Steve Hodgson's Football Academy.
With years of experience developing players at all levels, Steve will bring a wealth of expertise to the new squad, ensuring players receive the best possible training and support.
The team will train every Monday evening on the 3G pitch at All Hallows Catholic College, having met up for the first time this week (Monday, March 3).
Speaking after the session, a club spokesperson said: "What a proud night for the club, our first session for our brand new Female Open Age team.
"What made it especially proud is seeing the U14s Wildcats training on the next pitch - giving the girls a bird's-eye view of our new pathway!"
Tytherington Juniors FC is a proud partner of Her Game Too, a nationwide campaign dedicated to tackling sexism in football and increasing opportunities for female players at all levels.
By launching an open-age female team, Tytherington Juniors is actively backing the mission of Her Game Too, reinforcing that football is for everyone.
The team is due to join the Cheshire Women's & Youth Football League from next season.
