Tributes have been paid following the death of a former Silkmen striker.
Macclesfield FC have announced that former player Paul Cavell has passed away at the age of 63.
Renowned as one of the most exciting forwards outside the Football League, Cavell joined Sammy Mcllroy's Macclesfield Town side in the summer of 1995.
In his first season at Moss Rose, Cavell would pick up a winners medal as the side beat Cheshire rivals Northwich Victoria by three goals to one in the FA Trophy final.
Cavell also represented England at a semi-professional level on a number of occasions throughout the course of his career.
"Our thoughts are with Paul's family and friends at this incredibly sad time," reads a statement released by Macclesfield FC.
Stafford Rangers, another of Cavell's former sides, have also paid tribute.
A post shared on the club's social media reads: "Paul was a true Stafford Rangers legend, a fans' favourite, and one of the finest goalscorers to wear the famous black and white shirt. His prolific goalscoring record, combined with his commitment and passion for the club, earned him a special place in the hearts of Rangers supporters.
"Paul gave us so many wonderful memories and will always be remembered as one of the great Rangers players of the 1980s.
"His contribution to the club and the lasting impact he made on supporters, teammates and everyone associated with Stafford Rangers will never be forgotten."
