Macclesfield chairman to take a step back as club undergoes behind-the-scenes restructure

Macclesfield FC's chairman is taking a step back from his role.
The club has announced that a behind-the-scenes restructuring will take place over the coming weeks.
This will see the appointment of an individual or a team to manage all day-to-day operations.
In turn, this means that after five years of leading the club on a day-to-day basis, chairman Rob Smethurst will now have time to focus on his other business interests.
However, he will retain his roles of director and owner.
Mr Smethurst said: "There can be no doubt that the football club has entered a new stage in its evolution.
"With this comes much excitement, but also greater pressures - particularly on a day-to-day basis.
"Due to my other business commitments, I feel now is the right time to appoint either one person or a team of people to steer us in the right direction going forward."
He continued: "As always, this decision has been made in the very best interest of the club, and please be assured that this is not some subliminal message that means I am about to leave!
"Quite the opposite in fact - because by making this decision, I feel that I am helping to ensure that this wonderful club reaches its undoubted potential in the not too distant future.
"We are also planning to involve fan representatives over the course of the next few weeks, so it remains a very exciting time for us all to be part of this Football Club."
In addition to this change, Macclesfield FC has announced that it will be looking to include members of the fanbase in a new 'consultation group'.
More details on this will follow in due course.
