As we move into Pride Month, we find ourselves reflecting not only on how far we've come, but on how much further we still need to go together.

Macclesfield's Pride story is one born from courage, love and community spirit. In 2017, two friends dreamed of a Rainbow Day. With the support of Utopia, their families and friends, and a supportive steering group, that dream was born into the first ever MaccPride in 2018. It was small, it was mighty and it meant everything. Our MaccPride is homegrown, heart-led, and rooted in the desire to make LGBTQ+ people feel seen, safe, and celebrated.

Since then, MaccPride has grown into a vibrant, year-round presence, working to make our town a safer, more visible and welcoming place for LGBTQ+ people of all ages. We're not just about one big day—we're about everyday pride, in every corner of our community.

However, 2025 brings with it heavy challenges. Across the UK, trans rights are being questioned, undermined and attacked. The rise in hostile rhetoric and misinformation is fuelling fear and division. For our trans and non-binary community, friends, neighbours, children and loved ones, this isn't just politics. It's personal. It's about being able to walk safely down the street. It's about being treated with dignity. It's about the basic right to exist.

So now, more than ever, we are calling on our Macclesfield community to stand together.

On Saturday, July 5, we will be holding the MaccPride "Pride March" and Celebration. Bring your joy, your support, your banners and your open hearts. Let's show our town, and the world, that Macclesfield stands for love, inclusion and equality. Let's come together in joy, defiance and unity. Whether you are LGBTQ+, an ally, a parent, a friend, a neighbour your presence matters. Show up. Speak up. Celebrate. March.

Alongside our MaccPride main event on Saturday July 5th 2025, we will also be hosting our Pride Hub in the Grosvenor Centre from 21st June for two weeks — a space for connection, learning, creativity and celebration. Pop in, say hello, be part of the conversation.

Pride is a protest but it's also a homecoming. It's a reminder that none of us are alone, and that together, we are stronger. It's a stand for justice, for community, for the right to be who we are without fear.

Because in Macclesfield, we know that pride is not about one identity, it's about all of us, standing together.

Despite the progress made towards LGBTQ+ equality throughout history, and with the current shift in anti-LGBTQ+ feeling across the world, the fight for equality is far from over. LGBTQ+ people still face discrimination and exclusion.
