Macclesfield town councillors have objected to plans that would see the building of 134 houses in Henbury due to concerns raised about "overdevelopment" and environmental damage.

The reserved matters application has been submitted to Cheshire East Council and would see the erection of the homes on land between Chelford Road and Whirley Road.

Volunteers from Macclesfield have been keeping the towns reputation for textiles alive by putting their sewing skills to good use and creating much-needed scrubs for local healthcare workers.

Helen Tams, a costume maker from Bollington, became one of the main coordinators of the volunteers in the local area and is appealing for donations to buy materials.

The death toll from the Coronavirus outbreak in Macclesfield and the surrounding areas - up to the middle of April – has been revealed to be at 27, in newly released data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

Twenty people have sadly lost their lives to the devastating virus in Macclesfield town, with the areas of Weston, central Macclesfield and Macclesfield Bollinbrook recording the joint highest single totals at four deaths each.

A former Bollington Councillor in has been sentenced for fraudulently claiming around £5,000 in expenses over five years.

Between 2009 and 2015 William Livesley, 66, who goes by Bill, was a Conservative councillor on Cheshire East Council – firstly representing the Prestbury and Tytherington area and later representing Bollington and Higher Hurdsfield.
