Sixth form students at The Fallibroome Academy in Macclesfield have been celebrating their A-level results today with 80% gaining places at their first choice universities.

The director of sixth form praised his students who performed well despite the "extraordinary set of circumstances" students found themselves in with the cancellation of exams due to coronavirus.

The secondary school achieved what Manny Botwe called a "solid set of results", but noted that some pupils had their predicted grades downgraded during the national moderation process following the cancellation of exams.

Passengers waiting at Macclesfield bus station will soon have a 'pocket park' or small garden area in which to rest - thanks to an initiative by Cheshire East Council.

The council plans to transform the overgrown site of a former shop at the approach to the station on Mill Street into a pleasant garden rest area, with seating, planting and paving.

A determined group of Cheshire Fire Cadets, including two from Macclesfield, who raised over £50,000 before lockdown, have vowed to continue their quest to secure enough money to finish building classrooms for village children in Nepal.

The team of 13 fire cadets and six leaders had spent nearly two years fundraising and were on track to make a trip out to Nepal this year to meet the schoolchildren using the classrooms before it was unfortunately postponed due to coronavirus restrictions.
