SciBar is science in a bar - an invited speaker gives a talk on a scientific topic while people enjoy a drink or meal, with a Q&A afterwards. Bollington SciBar takes place at the Vale Inn in Bollington.
The speaker in November is Stuart Allan, Professor of Neuroscience, University of Manchester.
Stroke is one of the leading causes of global death and disability and has only limited treatment options. Research over recent years has increasingly shown that inflammation, the body's defence system, has an important role to play in stroke. Inflammation contributes to stroke risk, to the damage in the brain that occurs immediately after the stroke and likely to longer term complications — such as dementia. The talk will discuss some of the evidence supporting a role for inflammation and stroke and the research being done to try and find new treatments.
No charge, all welcome.
