Our summer concert this year is a real treat. Puccini's Messa di Gloria is something of a surprise because its liturgical title belies its operatic energy and dramatic melodies, with soloists, chorus, and the music interacting vividly, creating both grand and intimate. Although forgotten for many years after its premiere, the composition was rediscovered in the twentieth century and is now admired for revealing Puccini's youthful talent and remarkable musical imagination.

"Gypsy Songs," by Johannes Brahms, is a lively vocal song cycle reflecting Brahms's fascination with Hungarian folk music and Romani-inspired melodies. The songs combine energetic rhythms, expressive harmonies, and emotional contrasts between joy, love, longing, and melancholy. The collection is popular in choral and chamber music performances. This concert is perfect for a summer evening.
