Did you know? The Rossendale Trust is celebrating their 50th anniversary this year?

The Rossendale Trust is a charitable trust that provides care and support for adults with learning disabilities.

They provide three different services, from supported living, the WorkTaste scheme which gets individuals into local jobs, and finally the Oakwood activities service.

To help fund these, and also celebrate what is a milestone birthday for the good cause, there is a packed events calendar to pique the public's interest throughout the rest of 2023. This is in addition to donations from individuals, and companies like the Co-op Food in Macclesfield.

Macclesfield Nub News met with Susanne Tidswell, PR and Fundraising officer at The Rossendale Trust to find out how their big birthday year has gone so far, and what there still is to look forward to.

"We have had so many great celebrations already with fantastic support from the community", she said.

"From our Golden Ball which saw so much support from local businesses and supporters. Most of the companies were from Macclesfield too, which was really important to us. We raised £23,000 at that event [a fitting figure given the year we are in.]

"The event was held at Macclesfield Town Hall. It was phenomenal. We could not have wished for a better evening.

"This month, we had a Garden Party for tenants and staff, which had an afternoon tea and Macclesfield musician Charley Farley perform for us. We didn't stop celebrating!

"And next month, we have the Summer Fete. It will be bigger and better than ever.

"It is a highlight of the year for many of us, and the community.

"We've got barbecue's, we've got beer, fun stalls like a coconut shy. You name it, we've got it.

"The Summer Fete will take place on Sunday 6 August, from 12pm to 4pm.

"There will be local stalls from Macclesfield businesses like Wincle Brewery and the Cheshire Cheese Company.

"We're still looking for donations to our raffle, which would be very welcome. That is one of the biggest fundraisers on the day, and we are selling our tickets now just email us or give us a call.

"We're also seeking more volunteers, whether it is stewarding at the carparks, or helping out at the stalls. You don't have to have helped out at The Rossendale Trust before, with all ages welcome.

"During the four hour event, there will be a cheque presentation from an amazing member of the community called Toby who has ran his 20th London Marathon for us. This year he raised £5000 which is incredible."

The beloved organisation, of Hollin Lane in Sutton, have also just marked their half-century with a soft rebrand, done by a local Archers Marketing.

And beyond the Summer Fete, other things to look forward to include the inaugural Golden Golf Day at Marton Meadows Golf Club.

This will take place on Sunday September 16, with teams of four golfers paying £60 to take part and raise funds for charity. There will be fun golf games for all the family to take part in as well, with tipples to enjoy for adults. Contact The Rossendale Trust to take part.

There's also more fundraising events to come later in the year, including a new golf-themed event. (Image - Macclesfield Nub News)

The Tenant Fashion Show and Christmas Market at AstraZeneca Macclesfield will round-out the landmark year for the independent charity.

All of these fundraising events are not the only way money is generated for The Rossendale Trust.

Furthermore, the Co-op Food are raising thousands of pounds for The Rossendale Trust, with a cheque to be presented this November.

Co-op customers can help raise these vital funds for their Oakwood programme, which pays for activities like sport and media for tenants.

They, alongside eleven other charities are having funds raised for them this year by the Co-op and their members.

"Working with the Co-op has been great", added Susanne.

"They have been really supportive to us. Tina Davies, the Member Pioneer has arranged lots of helpful meetings for us. And it has been nice to get to know some of the other local charities like Just Drop In.

"We regularly share on social media to remind people how simple it is to raise funds through us by doing your shopping at the Co-op.

"It really is 'free money', as it were that you are donating. Thank you to friends, family of The Rossendale Trust and the wider community for their support."
