Macclesfield Nub News was founded on principles of supporting our community. This includes promoting Macclesfield shops, businesses, charities, clubs and sports groups. We will be profiling some of these businesses and organisations in a regular feature called UP CLOSE, finding out what makes them tick.

Recent editions include an award-winning brewery celebrating a milestone anniversary, and a world-renowned gin distillers from our town.

Today, we meet with a man who has worked his way up in supermarkets around Macclesfield to receive a promotion in Prestbury.

Co-op Prestbury Store Manager Ryan Brett has worked for the Co-op all his working life, and enjoys the ethical side of the company, which includes helping out in the local community.

"I started working for the Co-op as an eighteen-year-old in 2013", he said.

"I became a Team Leader when I was still a teenager, and have been a Team Manager at stores like Co-op Macclesfield West Park.

"I've worked at many stores, but I've been there the longest.

"I was then promoted to a Store Manager Role at Co-op Macclesfield Thornton Square, and at a few other stores as well.

"And now I am delighted to have been promoted to the Store Manager role at Prestbury Village Co-op.

"Prestbury itself feels like you have gone back in time with a nice old school community feel.

"I get people on the street saying hello to me all the time, which is a really nice feeling."

And for people's friendly street greetings to Ryan, his store gives back.

As well as hosting a food bank drop-off point, single plastic recycling facility, and cashpoint, the shop raises money for local good causes.

In the past year, Prestbury Village Co-op has raised thousands for Pollyanna's Day Nursery Ltd in Prestbury Village Hall on Macclesfield Road and Girlguiding in Prestbury.

The third cause Ryan's store raises funds for is The Bridgend Centre in Bollington, which offers company and someone to talk to in an accessible and disability friendly space.

The exact amounts of how much Prestbury has raised for these three causes will be revealed shortly, and presented to the community by Ryan and his team.

Co-op membership costs just £1, and you can earn money off your shop, as well as choosing to give money back to local causes. You can even choose which cause you support, be it from Prestbury, Bollington, Macclesfield or beyond! (Image - Alexander Greensmith / Macclesfield Nub News)

"I love working for the Co-op, it is really rewarding to work for such an ethical company," Ryan added.

"What is so great about the Co-op is that if you become a member, you can get a discount like you can with loyalty cards with other supermarkets, but you can also choose for the Co-op to distribute money to community projects.

"It is also nice here as it is the first Co-op I have managed with a Post Office, which is a really nice thing for the community."

Co-op membership helps support your local community, with great rewards for you too. When you buy selected Co-op branded products and services, 2p for every pound spent goes to you and we'll give the same to local communities. Join the Co-op today online at this webpage or in-store.
