A Macclesfield resident who has worked for the Co-op for all his working life, has been rewarded with a managerial job on his doorstep.
Chris Rose has worked at Co-op stores in Northwich and Stockport since he was a teenager. However, he has never worked in his hometown of Macclesfield, until now.
Chris is the new Store Manager role at West Park Drive Co-op.
"It is a privilege to work in the community where I live, and have an opportunity to really make a difference," said Chris.
"I started here on 27th August and am loving it.
"I love working for the Co-op, I have done so since I was 16.
"I worked my way up to a Store Manager role, which I have done for eight years, but this is my first in Macclesfield, which is where I am from.
"I have lived all across Macclesfield and Bollington and went to Tytherington School. I love the town as it has a nice community feel, and so does the Co-op, so it all lines up nicely together.
"There's 11 of us working at this store, and my colleagues have all been lovely with me. They work really hard, we all pull together and help each other out."
Chris wanted to make a big difference to the community in his new role. So he decided to choose a local cause suitable for the Co-op's Community Donation Fund.
Browsing through Facebook one evening, he came across Macclesfield Children and Baby Library.
Boasting over 3,000 members on Facebook, the community of mostly mothers collect baby-related items and give them back to the community. Particularly for those who are struggling or in need.
It was started by Tytherington School and Macclesfield College alumni Shannon Lancaster.
Chris explained why he picked them.
"I thought it was a great opportunity to introduce myself to the community and support others," he said.
"My store has decided to donate a lot of canned and jarred food, cleaning stuff, nappies, baby milks to Macclesfield Children and Baby Library.
"We teamed up with Ivymeade and Thornton Square Co-op to donate £150 of baby stock each.
"The project was funded by the Co-op's Community Donation Fund, which is a fantastic initiative and just a small part of the work the Co-op does to help others.
"The donation will be collected by volunteers and taken to Bethel Baptist Church on Calamine Street, where the Baby Library is based."
Macclesfield West Park Drive Co-op is open seven days a week from 7am to 10pm.
