Costa have confirmed the status of their popular town centre store, as they set to open a new outlet in Macclesfield in 2022/23.

The coffeehouse chain, who have a store opposite St. Michael's Church on Market Place, are one of the businesses currently revealed to have purchased a plot at Barracks Mill.

The derelict 78,000 sq. foot site on Black Lane, is set to welcome retail warehouse units and a new external carpark.

Costa are one of many companies revealed to open a new store there, who also currently have a new store in town.

Macclesfield Nub News reached out to them for comment.

"We can confirm that a planning application has been approved for a Costa Coffee Drive-Thru store in Barrack Mills, Macclesfield," said a Costa spokesperson.

"Unfortunately, we are unable to share any further details at this time."

"Further to this, we can also confirm that there is currently no plans to close the Costa Coffee store on 23 Market Place, Macclesfield."

Costa did not respond as to whether the micro coffee shop inside of Hibel Road Tesco, just a stone's throw from the new site, will remain open.

While the amount of new jobs created is unknown, it is great to hear employees at the Market Place store, which is open 8am-5pm daily, will keep their jobs.

The news follows as other suitors who have purchased land at the development who also have shops in town, confirmed the status of their older high street stores.

Marks and Spencer will shut their town centre store, while Aldi will keep theirs open as well as opening a new supermarket on Barracks Mill.
