The full line-up for a spring music festival in Macclesfield has been revealed, and they contain a 2000s classic.

Macclesfield in May: Party in the Pews Festival will be held from April 29 - May 1 2022.

It will raise money for The Christie Macclesfield, the new cancer treatment unit opening in December 2021.

The Christie Macclesfield will have been open for five months by the time of the Macclesfield music festival.

The first headliner to be revealed for the Bridge Street celebration of song is Toploader.

The Eastbourne band rose to prominence in the year 2000, with their UK No. 7 hit Dancing in the Moonlight.

The post-Britpop banger is a favourite of DJ's across the country, and will (metaphorically) raise the roof of the Anglican Church.

Toploader have had five UK Top 20 hits, but have never performed in Macclesfield.

What many don't know is that their signature song is actually a cover.

Their of King Harvest's 1972 hit Dancing in the Moonlight is the band's highest charting single.

It can be listened to at the top of this article.

Also revealed as headliners for Party in the Pews is hometown heroes The Virginmarys.

The Macclesfield rockers, played a last minute show at Macclesfield in October Festival to raise money for The Christie. And were quick to sign up to the next festival by the same organisers.

It is their first known Macclesfield show of 2022, and Party in the Pews will also fundraise for the cancer charity.

The Macclesfield duo are currently working on their fourth studio album.

The local band comprises frontman guitarist Ally Dickaty and drummer Danny Dolan.

1970s punk band Buzzcocks are another big name booked for the Macclesfield event.

They'll play their first gig in Macclesfield since the death of founding member Pete Shelley, in 2018.

Other acts booked to play the Grade II*-listed building include Stoke-on-Trent indie band SHADER and Derbyshire singer-songwriter Ben Ottewell, of the band Gomez, who will be performing a solo set.

Tickets are not on sale yet, but Macclesfield Nub News readers can get ahead and be the first to book.

You can get early bird discounted tickets by messaging Party in the Pews on Facebook.

You can also find the full line-up revealed there.

The day after the music festival ends, the rescheduled Peter Hook concert from last month, which was postponed, will be held at the church which opened in 1777.

The Joy Division bassist had to pull out of Macclesfield in Octoberfest due to coronavirus.
