Macclesfield: Police appeal after burglary of Churchill Way charity shop
Missing money, criminal damage and a heartbroken charity.
Police in Macclesfield have launched an appeal after an Age UK in our town was burgled on Halloween weekend.
The Age UK Furniture Showroom on Churchill Way is the larger of the two Age UK stores in our town.
It was ransacked, but thankfully their Exchange Square store got off scot-free from criminals.
The charity store had windows and doors smashed in, office stripped, and crucial funds stolen.
The incident either occurred on the evening of Friday 29 October, or the early hours of Saturday 29.
The knock-on effect of the burglary, combined with the wet weather, caused the charity store to pull out of the Treacle Market on Sunday 31.
Cheshire Constabulary have now provided more details about the crime, but no CCTV footage has been released.
In a statement, Cheshire Constabulary said: "At sometime between 4.30pm on Friday 29 October and 8.30am on Saturday 30 October, unknown offenders have gained entry to the shop via Roe Street before making an untidy search."
"A quantity of items were taken including a safe and cash.
"Police are now appealing for anyone with any information to get in touch".
The exact quantity of money and cost of the criminal damage is not yet known.
But please do visit the affected store or their sister shop, which are both currently open.
The large store which was victim to the attack can be accessed both via Churchill Way and Roe Street.
Macclesfield-based Cheshire Police Sergeant Pete Luscombe said: "To target a charity is taking away something from those who need help the most and a number of enquiries are currently underway in relation to this report."
"As part of these enquiries, we are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the Roe Street area and may have seen somehting that didn't look quite right.
"The same goes for anyone who thinks they may have CCTV or captured dashcam footage of the incident.
"We are doing all we can to track down those responsible and bring them to justice."

The store added: "We were absolutely devastated to have to deal with a burglary at another of our shops.
"Our efforts should be focused on raising funds to support older people in Cheshire East, not this.
"If you have any information, please contact Cheshire Police."
