The much-loved Macclesfield FC documentary is to make the jump from BBC iPlayer to terrestrial TV.

The 60-minute BBC Sport production premiered on BBC iPlayer only, but will no longer remain an online exclusive, as schedulers have decided to put it on mainstream telly.

Robbie Savage: Making Macclesfied FC was first able to stream last Friday, and now will be broadcast on BBC One this Saturday.

The programme will be on at 11pm, just after the Saturday night News and Weather.

With no Match of the Day on Saturday night due to the international break in football, where no Premier League teams play, the BBC have decided to screen the doc set in our town.

According to Macclesfield FC Director of Football Robbie Savage, the decision may have been influenced by the high viewing figures of the documentary on BBC iPlayer.

Mr Savage said: "Massive numbers watching this on IPlayer, a heartwarming story, a club at the heartbeat of its community once again.

"[Tune in] BBC1 Saturday night 11pm."

The description for the show on the BBC iPlayer website states: "After Macclesfield Town Football Club is wound up in September 2020, former Premier League star-turned-pundit Robbie Savage and local businessman Rob Smethurst attempt to build a new club from the ashes – Macclesfield FC.

"With no players, no staff, no league to play in and a rundown old ground, can Robbie and Rob turn Macclesfield FC into a competitive football club which the community can be proud – in the space of nine months?"

If you can't wait until Saturday, you can watch the the programme here.

Precise streaming figures are unknown, but Macclesfield Nub News has contacted the BBC press office.

There is the possibility of a sequel, following the last few games of Macclesfield FC's title charge next summer in the North West Counties Football League Premier Division.
