Macclesfield's artisan market, which has been held since 2010, has put our town on the map.

And recognition could go one step further as nominations for a national market awards has opened.

Britain's Favourite Market 2022, which is organised by The National Association of British Markets, pits English, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish markets together to find the best in our country.

Our town's market sill compete with 1,172 other markets to become the best. So the Treacle Market needs your help.

Then click the blue 'Vote Now' button and are done.

You can vote once per day until December 13, when nominations close.

The winner will be announced in the new year.

But runners-up will be announced to, so get voting to try and give Macc some national acclaim, even if you don't think they are going to win.

Andy and Becky Thompson, who took over organising the Treacle Market from Jane Munro earlier in the year, had this to say on the vote:

Andy and Becky Thompson, who took over organising the Treacle Market from Jane Munro earlier in the year, had this to say on the vote:

"We all know that Treacle Market is quite simply the best market in the UK anyway, so why not make a vote count and put us on the map!"

The couple added: "With an award like this we can build on it and look to what can be achieved Macclesfield-wide.

"We have been so lucky to have been passed the baton by Jane to carry on this amazing market, and we are gradually bringing in some of our own ideas; more music, more entertainment, more stalls, more of the brilliant and bizarre.

"Essentially we feel a monthly market with an almost festival feel is what our town deserves, and will allow all of our towns businesses, both independent and larger scale, to showcase everything that Macclesfield has to offer.

"With consistently 150 – 200 stalls of absolute quality handmade, organically reared, produced from the heart and just nothing short of incredible products, there is simply nothing to not love!

"The traders are at the heart of our market and they turn out come rain, hail or shine. If you have not been to the market recently get yourself down. We are diversifying a little in the hope to bring a monthly market of the amazing.

"We host community stalls every month providing an outlet for charities and community groups to be seen and heard, which is a great aspect to our market, and perhaps does not always happen at others.

"Arts is also at our core. We love the fact that we are able to join up with our local arts groups and get people on board to showcase just exactly what they do.

"Working together across all levels of business is something we feel out market does incredibly well, which is only going to serve our amazing town for the better.

"An award like this can really help to put Macclesfield on the map, in line with our massive desire to be a small part of the huge thing that is making Macclesfield THE destination town in Cheshire for food, drink, produce, gifts - and a great experience for all.

"Macclesfield has everything to offer and we would love to attract more of a positive buzz about our town. This would be a great starting block!

"Treacle Market is not just a market. It is a community hub, a place for people to meet, a place for people to showcase their amazing products and a place to do your shopping. A place to enjoy emerging musical talent, along with some of the more well-known artists that we have introduced.

"Our symbiotic approach brings so much together, a vote for us would be amazing! Thank you."

Traders have also already voted. Macclesfield Treacle Market stall Courthouse Collective have shared they have voted on social media.

Another Macclesfield institution to have voted and encouraged others to pledge their support is Millbank Drive's East Cheshire Hospice.

"East Cheshire Hospice wishes the Treacle Market the best of luck in the voting," a spokesperson said.

"We'd encourage everyone with connections to Macclesfield and beyond to vote for the Treacle Market which is an institution in the town and deserves support."

The Treacle Market takes place on Market Place, Mill Street, Exchange Street, and in more recent times Unicorn Gateway and the rejuvenated Castle Street.

The penultimate Treacle Market of the year will be on November 28.

The final and festive Treacle Market will take place on December 19, six days after the vote for the Britain's Favourite Market closes.
