Residents across Cheshire have less than four more days to share their views on policing and crime in their community in Commissioner John Dwyer's county-wide survey.

The deadline for responses is 23:59 on Sunday December 5 2021. If you're posting, make sure you get a head start.

It's been three weeks since the Commissioner's survey began to be delivered to resident's homes, with everyone encouraged to share their views and influence the future of policing in Cheshire.

Among various questions, the most crucial topic for the everyday person is that Mr Dwyer wants Macclesfield's views on whether the the policing precept in your council tax should rise.

This is the amount of money that goes from your council tax to the force's budget.

The potential increase is to help Mr Dwyer achieve the goals of his second term in office as the Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire.

To do this, the top cop believes he will need more staff.

Paying just five more pence in council tax per week could see 18 Officers, 22 Intelligence Analysts, or 25 Call Operators in our county.

Doubling this could see 10p per week: 36 Officers, or 44 Intelligence Analysts, or 50 Call Operators.

If you're okay with a 15p per increase per week, this could see 54 extra Officers, or 66 Intelligence Analysts, or 75 Call Operators in our county.

The final possible increase of 20p per week could bring 73 Officers, or 89 Intelligence Analysts, or 100 Call Operators across Cheshire, with a few of these helping out in Macclesfield.

John Dwyer, Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, said:

"I have received a great amount of feedback through this survey, and I'd encourage those who haven't given their opinions yet to be part of the largest consultation exercise that their Commissioner has ever carried out.

"I'm unable to fulfil my role to its full potential if I don't know what you want me to hold the Chief Constable to account for. By sharing your feedback we can all make Cheshire a safer place to live, work and visit."

Police.UK stats suggest October 2021 had the most crimes in Macclesfield Central of all of 2021.

There were 205 reported crimes in the month of Halloween, the most in our town centre since December 2020.

Could an increase in the amount of money the taxpayer gives to the police help stop this rise?

John Dwyer added:

"I want to know what level of resources people feel needs to be available to deliver on their policing and crime priorities. In the survey I have given a number of options for residents to consider."

"In the new year I will be coming back to the residents of Cheshire with a formal proposal for the precept that will reflect the feedback I've received in this survey."
