Macclesfield MP campaigns to keep Lyme Green in Sutton Parish Council

David Rutley, Macclesfield's long-serving MP, is calling for Lyme Green to remain part of the area served by Sutton Parish Council.

The Macclesfield public servant strongly supports the Parish Council and local residents in opposing plans for the village to become part of the Macclesfield Town Council area in proposals set out in the planned Cheshire East Council consultation on the future and boundaries of local councils in our area.

While talking to several local residents in Lyme Green recently, David heard

their real worries about proposals to move Lyme Green into the boundaries of

Macclesfield Town Council.

They feel that their views are better represented by Sutton Parish Council, as they have been for many years, and that the needs of the village would not have the same profile in the setting of a much bigger town council.

As a small village in a primarily rural setting on the outskirts of Macclesfield,

Lyme Green has been part of Sutton Parish Council for many years.

Residents feel that they have been served well by being part of the Parish Council and they want to keep things as they are.

Sutton Parish Council also shares strong concerns about the proposed changes that would see Lyme Green move into the area served by Macclesfield Town Council.

The Parish Council will be making strong representations against the proposals set out in Cheshire East Council's document, when any future consultation takes place.

After spending time meeting with local residents, David said, "Lyme Green

needs to stay part of Sutton Parish Council. The Parish Council and Lyme

Green's local residents are clear about that.

"The community feels that being part of Sutton Parish Council provides a more effective voice for the community than becoming part of Macclesfield Town Council. It's important to ensure that the distinct identities of our local villages, like Lyme Green, continue to be properly recognised in the future."
