The son of Macclesfield FC's Director of Football could make his competitive debut tonight.

Charlie Savage (18), who was raised on Macclesfield Road in Prestbury, has been named in the first team squad for Manchester United's clash against Young Boys tonight.

The son of Macclesfield FC's Robbie Savage could make his debut tonight, if he is substituted on for another player, by new Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick.

The young footballer raised in the Macclesfield area signed his professional contract with the Red Devils in April 2021.

Speaking on BT Sport, proud Dad Robbie Savage (47), said: "Even if he doesn't get on, I've told him whatever happens in life, you've been on the bench for Manchester United."

"My dad, who is unfortunately no longer with us, would be proud of his grandson. Even if he doesn't go on the pitch, no matter what, for the rest of his life he was on the Manchester United sidelines."

Leicester-born Charlie has followed in the footsteps of his dad Robbie, by starting his professional football career with Manchester United.

However, unlike his son, Robbie Savage never played a competitive minute of football for United.

Charlie is also a midfielder, like his Macclesfield FC-associated father.

Savage Sr. was close to tears, and which you can view his full interview on his son's potential competitive debut here.

UPDATE: Charlie came on for FIFA World Cup winner Juan Mata in the 89th minute. The game finished 1-1.

Charlie posted a thank you message on social media.

"Delighted to have made my first team debut for Manchester United in the Champions League," he said.

"I would like to thank all the academy staff for their support over the last 14 years and the manager for putting his trust in me tonight."

Savage Jr. was subbed on at the same time as his childhood pal Zidane Iqbal, who came off for Jesse Lingard.
