An innovative Macclesfield takeaway app is celebrating half-a-year of business.

Macclesfield Eats, which launched at the tail-end of 2020 was a pandemic project for the founder, that has turned into a fast and easy way to get takeout food in town.

5000 Maxonian's are already registered on the app, which is around 10% of the town.

Macclesfield Eats Owner and Director Jamie Rooke (24), of Macclesfield, is delighted with the first six months.

"It is quite surreal actually it has gone really fast, I'm excited to continue growing it," he said.

"Macclesfield Eats is a localised version of Just Eat or Uber Eats or Deliveroo. But the difference is the support we give to local businesses.

"All the big brands like the ones I've just mentioned charge big rates of commission, to the small business. We are talking minimum 14% or over. We charge only half of that. We are so much cheaper.

"But also we support the local community in other ways, we have given back to charities such as the Macclesfield Silklife Foodbank and plan to do more in the future.

"We are keeping local money local, rather than feeding it to the big multi-million pound businesses."

Jamie used to be a former sound and light technician for events.

However, losing his job in the pandemic caused him to explore new opportunities.

He plans to continue Macclesfield Eats even if his old profession were to return, as the app is already a rousing success.

A whopping 40 independent local takeaways are currently signed up, with a range of global cuisines.

"The response from the Macclesfield community has been absolutely brilliant", he added.

"Comments overwhelmingly say 'how great it is to support local businesses' or 'we only use Macclesfield Eats instead of the bigger apps'.

"We also do multiple competitions and giveaways a month for people to enter. And we have loads to come in the next few days when we hit the six month mark.

"We're here to support local, save takeaways money, and a lot of these savings are passed onto the customers as well. Customers can get better deals because it is cheaper for the takeaway to list on our app."

For the future of the app, and their semi-birthday, Jamie is trialling mobile table ordering for venues that are not big enough to have their own app.

The Thirsty Beak on Dukes Court will trial using the Macclesfield App to get food and drink delivered directly to your table.

Jamie is looking to sign up more businesses - so welcomes any local eatery which offers takeaway to get in touch.
