Two Macclesfield Nub News readers have informed us of a possible scam for Vodafone customers in our town.

The mobile network, which claim their service is used by the UK's emergency services, has had a potential scam caller from a Macclesfield landline.

Macclesfield Nub News reader Lauren said "I was phoned today by a Macclesfield landline, he informed me that he was from Vodafone and I was going to incur charges, knew my partners full name as he is the name on the account.

"I've contacted Vodafone and it wasn't them.

"Googling the number says it calls lots of Macclesfield people for lots of reasons from life insurance to Vodafone.

"It could seem to be a savvy scammer as I nearly fell for it with the Macclesfield location coming up."

Lauren wants people to keep an eye out on any 01625 numbers claiming to be the global telecommunications company, and has used Macclesfield Nub News' Nub it function to get the word out.

You too can submit your own news and comment by clicking the black 'nub it' button on the link above.

Lauren also provided a number, which this journalist tried to call, but to no reply or chance to leave a voicemail.

Unfortunately, we cannot reveal the landline with the alleged scam for privacy and legal reasons.

However, this is an open warning for Vodafone customers to remain vigilant!

Another reader got in touch with a similar case, who asked not to be named.

The writer of this very article is a Vodafone

According to who-called.co.uk, the Macclesfield area number, which we can't reveal for legal reasons, has been flagged seven times as 'harassing', and six times as 'dangerous'.

Vodafone have been contacted for comment.

They had no official statement to make regarding these specific cases, but urged Macclesfield customers to contact their customer service if you feel you are being scammed.

You can also ring Cheshire Police on 101 - the non-emergency number - to report a potential scam.

Vodafone also have a Macclesfield store on 9 Mill Street, for anyone which has any specific customer service enquiries.
