Four comedians are appearing at a local rugby club this Friday as part of the Standup Macclesfield series.

Macclesfield RUFC, on Priory Lane, is hosting the monthly event and audiences will see award-winning comics and be immersed in lively interaction amid the sharp-witted tongues of newcomers and experienced performers.

All are practiced on the circuit across the North West, including being seen under the lights at the well-established Frog and Bucket comedy club in Manchester.

And now they're coming to our town this weekend.

Tickets are £15 per person at the Macclesfield sporting venue.

Jonathan Mayor has performed as a support act for TV comic Sarah Millican and is a regular on the alternative circuit where his observations and larger-than-life personality keep everyone on the edge of their seats.

Phil Ellis collected the Foster's Edinburgh Comedy Awards panel prize in 2014 for his show Funz and Gamez which was then broadcast by BBC Radio 4.

He has written and starred in a radio sitcom for the corporation too, which received nominations for in-house awards.

Phil has been the compere of 'Beat the Frog' nights at the Northern Quarter venue where the two other acts have also performed.

Alex Stringer played her first gig in February 2019 but already has gained a following on the local circuit in spite of closed venues.

The Liverpudlian was runner-up in the West Didsbury Comedy Festival New Act of the Year 2020 - a gig which she did online.

Graeme Rayner, another comic, described her on his Sparks of Madness podcast as one of those acts who look as though they've arrived fully formed.

Molly McGuinness completes the line-up fresh from a stint in the BBC Writers Comedy Room in 2020.

The Salford comic has also written for Channel 4, showcasing the talent which has seen her earn a Masters degree in the art of screenwriting.

Standup Macclesfield is on Friday February 11 at Macclesfield RUFC, Priory Lane, Macclesfield. Venue opens at 7pm. Show begins at 8pm. Over 18s only.
