Getting fit in 2024? The new year has a new lady leading the swimming programme at Everybody Macclesfield.
Alison Seaborn is now in charge of the swimming team at Macclesfield Leisure Centre.
The Macclesfield resident is a familiar face to generations of Macclesfield swimmers, and looks forward to meeting more with her new role.
Macclesfield Nub News met with Alison, who is employed by a sponsor of Macclesfield Nub News, to find out more.
"I have been here for around 20 years now," said Alison.
"Before that, I trained in Bollington, and was a competitive swimmer.
"I first worked here [at Macclesfield Leisure Centre] as a Swim Teacher, and I am now the newly-appointed Swim Lead for Everybody Macclesfield.
"As soon as I was able to teach [age 16], I have taught.
"I like working for Everybody as we have a fantastic team here.
"I do move between sites sometimes, but there seems to be a very lovely team atmosphere. We are looked after.
"We are one of the larger Everybody sites, at any one time we could have nine teachers working."
Everybody Macclesfield boasts 48 sessions on their swimming timetable, seven days a week, with some starting as early as 6:15am and ending as late as 10pm.
Macclesfield boasts a 25 metre pool with eight lanes, and an additional learner pool for their youngest swimmers.
The water depth ranges from one to three metres.
A large swathe of swim groups utilise the site, and there's a sauna room near the pools too.
""We have lovely staff who deal with a lot of the customer service side of things", added Alison.
"The favourite thing about my job is that it is joyful.
"It is one of the very few jobs where you can see the impact you have on somebody's life, and reasonably rapidly as well.
"For example, when somebody goes into the pool and they are scared and worried, but then they achieve something, whether that is putting their face in the water or lifting their feet off the floor for the first time, the joy that is written all over the face is stunning.
"There have been many occasions where I have been crying tears of happiness on poolside.
"It is a life-saving skill, and it is a life skill.
"And it gives us the opportunity to touch so many different people's lives, whether it is for a short period of time or over a long period of time."
Another personal sentimental benefit for Alison is the fact that she used to teach quite a lot of the current lifeguards, including her pictured colleague Alex Puchalski who is a Full-Time swimming teacher.
She has taught him he was a toddler. So the start of their journey's at Macclesfield Leisure Centre both co-exist with another.
"It doesn't matter what part of the job you pick on, it is incredibly fulfilling," revealed Alison.
"You are having an impact on how other people feel about swimming.
"I am a true believer in swimming being fun first and foremost, but it is so much more.
"Bringing your child to a Leisure Centre it was probably the first time as a parent, that I felt safe to leave my kid here - who was desperate for independence - it is a really nice safe environment for them to be in.
