Founded in 2021, the Charitable Foundation provides grants of between £500 and £5,000 to charities and groups in Staffordshire, Cheshire, Derbyshire and Shropshire.

Last year over £36,000 was donated to a number of worthy causes that will have a positive impact on the lives of disadvantaged or vulnerable people in our communities.

Leek Building Society's Charitable Foundation is one part of its commitment to local communities and its town centre branches, such as the Macclesfield branch on Chestergate.

Chair of the Charitable Foundation, Tim Edwards, said: "In developing the Foundation, we were particularly interested to focus on small to medium-sized charities that were making a real difference in our local area, but wanted to do more.

"With the Foundation's grants, we've been able to support a range of activities helping local people through hard times or helping improve their quality of life, which is really rewarding."

One charity which has recently been supported by the Leek Building Society Charitable Foundation is the Upton Youth and Community Project, based on Churchway.

The charity has been awarded £2,500 by Leek Building Society to help continue its food pantry to help reduce food poverty.

The Leek youth project, @21, also benefited from funding from the charitable foundation recently to support children who use the services, including cooking sessions, health & wellbeing sessions, outdoor activities.

Charities and community groups can apply for funding from the Leek Building Society Charitable Foundation for causes such as food poverty, welfare advice, the development of green spaces and digital inclusion.

Those thinking of applying must be based within 10 miles of a Leek Building Society branch, such as in Macclesfield on Chestergate.
