65-year-old arrested and drugs seized after Macclesfield stop check

Officers have recovered a large quantity of illegal drugs after performing a stop check on a vehicle in Macclesfield.

At around 11.30pm on Wednesday 10 January officer stopped a blue Ford Transit van on Crompton Road, Macclesfield.

While searching the van officers discovered a number of bags containing what are believed to be illegal drugs, along with two mobile phones and a quantity of cash.

The driver of the car, a 65-year-old man from Macclesfield, was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply illegal drugs.

The man remains in police custody at this time.

Detective Sergeant Angela Coppock, of Macclesfield Proactive Policing Team said: "This is a fantastic result which has led to the removal of a large quantity of illegal drugs from the streets of Macclesfield."

"While this investigation is in the early stages, I am sure that this arrest will provide reassurance for residents in the area and the wider community.

"I also hope that it acts as a warning to other offenders who are thinking about coming into Cheshire to commit crime.
